Small but mighty, Exmoor is England’s smallest. It’s got big skies though, and is a great spot for stargazing, walking and exploring. Check out its patches of rare Atlantic Rainforest at Culbone Wood.
The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway
This fabulously quirky attraction put the fun back into funicular. A water-powered cliff railway that’s a shortcut between Lynton and Lynmouth.
Watermouth Castle
It’s a castle and a theme park with a bonkers water-powered organ thingy that makes fountains to music. Plus lots of other rides and oddities.
Museum of British Surfing
A tiny museum in Braunton that’s packed with great stuff telling the story of surfing in Britain.
Lynmouth - Watersmeet
A beautifully situated former fishing lodge and National Trust property at the place where the East and West Lyn rivers meet. Fabulous walking along the gorge.
The South West Coast Path
begins at Minehead and covers 630 miles to Studland in Dorset. Great, challenging, inspiring walking. England’s highest sea cliff is on this section at Combe Martin.
Barnstaple - Tarka Leisure Centre
is a multi-use leisure centre with pools, tennis, gym and even a ski machine.

Barnstaple - The Tarka Trail
Is an off road cycling and walking trail that you can pick up in Barnstaple and ride all the way into Instow, Bideford and out to Meeth. Great rolling and lots of good stops, including cafes at Bideford Old Railway Station, The Puffing Billy at Torrington and at Yarde Orchard Café.
North Devon Wake Park
Great family-run tow lake where you can get expert tuition on the water as well as tea and biccies, paddleboard rental and an aquapark for the kids.

great off-road cycling using the old railway line to Padstow. Wadebridge is about half way and a great place to park and cycle into Padstow. Bike hire here too.

lovely, out of the way beach.

huge beach. Home to a tidal pool and The Watering Hole, a bar and music venue right on the sands.
Coast to Coast Cyle
from Portreath (good cafes) to Devoran on a really lovely, car-free route that takes you through the old industrial heartland of north Cornwall.
